Parkinson’s changes lives. From the day of diagnosis, people with Parkinson’s and their loved ones need to know we’re by their side. By 2024 Parkinson’s UK will provide personalised information, services and opportunities, from day one, to many more people affected by the condition. But, we need your help to do this. The First Steps programme helps people to take the first steps in processing their diagnosis and enables them to find out what information and support is available, to help them start living well with Parkinson’s. It is a structured group programme hosted by people with Parkinson’s. The hosts’ own personal experience of living well with Parkinson’s provides inspiration and motivation to course participants.

First Steps is currently being delivered as an online course, for up to 12 participants. Each online course consists of four 3 hour sessions. During the course people have the opportunity to ask questions, share their experiences, take part in group discussions and hear from other people in a similar situation. Some people attend the course with a member of their family or a friend, other people attend on their own.

We’re looking for volunteers to provide support with video-conferencing during our online programmes to allow our volunteer hosts to facilitate online courses for people recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s, and their family and friends. This role requires access to a desktop or laptop rather than, or in addition to, a tablet.
