We are looking for a volunteer who has an understanding of Parkinson's, to organise monthly in-person social meet ups in Northamptonshire.

The meetups would be aimed at supporting people who have early onset Parkinson's.

With your help, we hope to offer a fun and enjoyable monthly social meetups, that will help to bring together people with early onset Parkinson's from all communities. This role can be undertaken by one volunteer, or is open as a shared role opportunity.

Monthly social meetups provide an opportunity to chat to others who understand, provide a chance to make new friends, have fun and feel less isolated.

Ideally meet ups would take place once a month, on a weekday evening or weekend day/evening. The aim would be to make them accessible to people who worked. The meet ups could be in a pub for a quick drink and chat ‘after work’, a Sunday morning coffee and cake catch up or even a monthly walk in the park with a chat and coffee after.

This role does require the ability to use email, and access to an internet enables device such as PC, tablet or smart phone to support email communication.

As part of recruitment, you will be asked to provide a reference for this role and undertake some basic on-line training before you start volunteering. The training can be done flexibly from home as it is online self study. Parkinson's UK staff would be here to support you every step of the way!

Throughout your volunteering with us, you would be supported by a staff contact who can offer advice and guidance to you. If you would like to know more about this role before you apply, please do get in touch for an informal chat.

We estimate that this role would need up to 2 hours a week of support which can be done flexibly around any existing commitments you may have.

The meetups can take place anywhere in Northamptonshire, so home location for the volunteer is flexible.

The volunteer is welcome to attend meetups with a family member or friend to assist any support needs the volunteer may have.

The volunteer can also claim travel expenses to and from their home location, and the location of the meetup in line with the Parkinson’s UK volunteer expense policy.
